25.9.2013 - 26.09.2013 BioBoost Plenary Meeting in Brussels

The BioBoost consortium held the 4th Plenary Meeting on 25th and 26th September 2013 in Brussels, Belgium in conjunction to the BioBoost Mid Term Review, which took place on 24th and 25th September 2013 at the premises of the EU Commission in Brussels.
As the BioBoost coordinating organisation Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers the plenary meeting was hosted by the Helmholtz Association in Brussels in the rooms of the KoWI (EU Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations).
To the beginning of the plenary meeting the consortium was informed that Nicolaus Dahmen (KIT) has taken over the full duty of the role of the coordinator of the BioBoost project. The work progress in the work packages 1 to 7, was presented and discussed and is well in line with the scheduled work plan.
The EU project officer Maria Georgiadou took the chance to introduce herself to the whole consortium. Ms. Georgiadou stated her contentment with BioBoost’s progress at the current state of the project and pointed out that the expected outcome and further impact of the BioBoost results to the European society and economy are rated by the EU commission as very important to realize the renewable energy strategies and policies in Europe. The nominated external technical reviewer John Tucker, senior Consultant at Kiwa GASTEC, of the BioBoost Mid Term Assessment, visited the BioBoost plenary meeting to gain more insight to the work of the BioBoost partners and current work flow in the work packages.
On the second day of the plenary meeting a workshop on risk assessment and safety issues in terms of transport and logistics of the energy carriers was held by WP 4 leaders Gerald Schönwetter and Gabriel Kronberger from FH OOE to discuss related requirements with consortium members involved in the conversion technologies, energy carrier applications and assessment. The consortium also had the great opportunity to learn the latest news and get an overview from Mr. Dollase from the KoWI (EU Liaison Office of the German Research Organisationsabout) about the next EU framework programme Horzon 2020 running from 2014 to 2020.
