5.3.2014 - 6.3.2014 BioBoost Plenary Meeting in Porvoo

The 5th Plenary Meeting from 5th to 6th March 2014 was hosted by Neste Oil Corporation in Porvoo, Finland. Neste Oil Corporation is the world's leading supplier of renewable diesel transportation fuels.

Jukka-Pekka Nieminen, Research & Development manager welcomed the consortium and provided insights into the history and development of Neste Oil including their production of renewable NEXTBTL biofuels.

At halftime the project BioBoost is well on its way. Significant results could be presented in all work packages. Important milestones are achieved as preferable locations for the three technology plants types based on their utilization of different feedstocks could be defined. The logistic optimization tool is ready to be used as a powerful simulator in the heuristic optimization environment developed by FHOOE with the HeuristicLab software. Further work will be continued in the scenario analysis of the BioBoost pathway chain in close collaboration with TNO. Important figures for the sensitivity parameters still need refinement. Open discussions and small group meetings helped to point out where further interaction, data exchange and strategic decisions are needed to improve the results.
A city tour through the old city centre of Porvoo with a visit of the Provoo Cathedral brought to attention the historic charm of the city. On the second meeting day Marina Lindblad and Steven Gust led the consortium to take an even closer look at an impressive tour through the Neste Oil refinery.
